to Abram: Go out of your country, and from your birthplace, and from your
father’s home, to the Land I shall show you (ar’eka). Genesis
12:1
The
commentators raise the question of the fact that we do not find the verse
telling us that God actually showed Abram the land which was his destination.
My
father explained that when a Jew reaches the Land of Israel he/she should feel
the sanctity and appreciate being in the Holy Land without having to be told
that they are in the Holy Land.
Immediately
upon arrival in Israel, Abram our father felt the atmosphere of sanctity and
purity which does not exist outside the Land.
