The following is taken from my father's writings.
Parashat Ḥukkat
appears between Koraḥ and Balak, teaching that observance of Torah
will save Israel from all its enemies, both internal and external. Torah and
Israel’s internal unity are the factors which will protect and ultimately save
Israel. Ideally, the two are interrelated, as shared commitment to Torah must
indeed unify the nation.
The
final words of Parashat Koraḥ [18:32]
are “that they not die,” the continuity teaches that it is Israel’s fidelity to
Torah and mitzvot which
is its source of life. This is true for the individual and for the nation as a
whole.
